How we work
Three things that do not change from job to job
A person answers every call
The number rings through at any hour, and emergencies are dispatched rather than booked for morning.
A written scope first
You see what is being replaced and what it costs before any panel is opened.
Permits where the code requires
Panel, service and new-circuit work is permitted and inspected under the 2023 Michigan Electrical Code.
Our guides
Who writes our electrical guides
Zachary Keating, electrical guides editor, writes and maintains the guides on this site. The guides draw on the jobs our technicians handle across Grand Rapids and on the Michigan Electrical Code, and are reviewed whenever the code or local conditions change.
Each guide is written to answer one question a homeowner actually asks us, such as whether a 100 amp panel can take a charger, and to be honest about when a job is simple and when it is not.

Offices
Our offices, and what happens when we are fully booked
The service office on Richmond St NW, on the west side of Grand Rapids, is where most residential calls start. The head office on Lamoreaux Dr NW in Comstock Park, north along the Alpine corridor, runs commercial scheduling and larger installs. Both are reached on the same number.
The electricians who answer this number work for Spencer-Redner Electric and do the jobs they book. On a storm night or when every crew is already out, a call may be forwarded to another trusted local electrical contractor so nobody is left waiting; that contractor sets its own availability and pricing.
